An overview of Reiki

The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words, Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". Reiki is in fact "spiritually guided life force energy." which is used to relieve illness and other maladies.
Reiki is a technique which can also be used to relieve stress and it helps to promote relaxation. It is a technique that involves the laying on of hands of the practitioner to the person whom he is trying to administer healing.
Reiki is based on the idea that there is a hidden life force or energy within us all which is what causes all living creatures to have life. If the life force or energy is low, then the person becomes ill or feels low and depressed. If the life force is high, then we all feel in optimum health.
Many people who have undergone a Reiki treatment report that they experience a wonderful radiance that travels not only throughout their body but also around it. This is because the Reiki treats not only the body but the emotions, mind and spirit. Reiki creates a wonderful feeling of peace security and well being.
Part of the process of Reiki healing is the idea that the person who is accepting the healing must take responsibility for their wellbeing. This means they have to actually take an active part in the Reiki healing process. This is usually done by the person making a firm commitment to themselves.
Because it is such a simple though effective technique, Reiki can be used by anyone. It is a natural way of spiritual healing which works well in conjunction with other more conventional methods and helps to promote a faster recovery.
Reiki is taught in a "class" situation. The ability is passed from the master to the student during a process called attunement. The pupil is able to tap into an unlimited supply of life force energy which can be used to enhance and improve a person's quality of life.
Many people assume Reiki to be a "cult" or some type of religion, this is not true. Reiki is not dependent on whether you believe in Christianity, Buddhism or any other religion. It works no matter who you believe your higher deity to be.
Reiki can be taught to anyone, you don't have to be an intellectual or a spiritual person, It doesn't matter what your background is, whether you are rich or poor. All you need to believe is that it works.
Even though Reiki is not a "religion" it still has principles and ethics which should be upheld. This includes living in harmony and peace with others.

Reiki as a spiritual healing system
Sep 30th, 2011 by Aldouspi

Reiki as a spiritual healing system

Reiki is a spiritual healing system that has its origins in Japan.

It basically consists of a "laying on of hands" type movement whereby the Reiki practitioner uses his or her hands to travel along your body - without actually touching the skin. The hands appear to touch the skin, but rest a few centimetres above it. The philosophy behind this type of healing is that there is amongst us all an unseen life force or energy which flows through all of us. This life force or life force energy (call it what you will) is the very essence of what it means to be alive. The Japanese believe that we are at a low point in our health if our life force energy is low - this renders us to be more prone to sickness and getting tired quickly.

If on the other hand, our life force energy is at a high level - then we are full of beans, and buzzing around full of energy and in good health.

The actual word, "REIKI", itself consists of two Japanese words: REI which in effect means "God's wisdom or the Higher Power" and KI which is "life force energy". Therefore, by combining these two words we see that the word REIKI actually means a life force energy that is spiritually guided.

Although Reiki itself is spiritual in essence, it is not a way or life, not is it a religion. Reiki does not require that you believe in something before you can learn it and use it. Quite the opposite in fact.Reiki will "work" whether you believe it will or not.

So, what exactly does a Reiki treatment feel like?

A Reiki treatment will (or rather should) leave you feeling warm and glowing and re-energised. Sometimes, a Reiki treatment may leave you feeling as though you have just experienced an altered state of consciousness or had some sort of spiritual experience.

Because Reiki doesn't just treatment one local area - but rather the whole person, which is the body part and the mind, spirit and emotions, you are left feeling totally relaxed and with a sense of well being. It kind of gives you a "warm feeling all over".

Reiki has been used in all sorts of treatments for many medical afflictions. It has been used to heal most probably every known illeness such as insomnia, flu, broken bones, headaches etc. As well as being used on its own as a therapy, it also works alongside other therapies to promote a faster healing period and to provide relief from side effects.

Reiki is not "taught" as such but is passed, or transferred, to the student during a Reiki class. The Reiki master will pass on his ability during an "attunement" and in so doing will allow the student to tap into a limitless supply of life force energy. In this way, Reiki has been taught to thousands of people all around the world, with different backgrounds, walks of life, and cultures.

Whole Body Reiki
Sep 24th, 2011 by Aldouspi

Reiki is a healing art that originated in Japan in the early 1900's. It is a healing treatment that is passed down from Master to student - and it is said that the student
receives "attunement" from the Reiki Master.

Reiki itself can be thought of as a non-physical, non-invasive healing treatment that consists of a "life force energy" that is said to be guided by the
Higher Intelligence. That said, it is important to bear in mind that Reiki is not a religion or way of life, and it has no dogma attached to it.
It doesn't require that you have any particular beliefs in order to receive the healing treatment either.

Generally, Reiki healing is given by a qualified Reiki practitioner who uses his/her hands to channel energy to the person in need of the treatment. Usually
only the affected part is treated. There is another type of Reiki treatment, known as "whole body Reiki" and this is used to treat the entire body as a whole.
More specifically, it helps the body to achieve a state of relaxation by eliminating blockages in the system which would disrupt the flow of energy throughout.

If whole body Reiki is administered over a long period of time, the end result is a marked improvement in the overall condition and health of the body.
A lot of this is due to the energy channels being opened up sufficiently, without any blockages or obstacles hindering the energy flow, and so the body is
much better equipped to deal with toxic build up and stress.
This has a further beneficial effect in that body processes such as the immune system are further strengthened and improved to deal with toxins more effectively
and efficiently.

Sometimes, a patient may be receiving the usual conventional medical treatment for an ailment and in cases like these, Reiki can also be used effectively to help
the recovery process. It does this by recharging the body with additional energy so that the body is better able to recover from illness.
Reiki has been known to provide beneficial results in relieving side effects which may arise as the result of some medical treatments, particularly in cases
of surgery and chemotherapy treatments. Once again, Reiki provides extra life energy which is just what the body needs, especially after such draining and demanding
treatments such as chemotherapy sessions. A good analogy of what Reiki does for the body is that it is almost like charging one's personal battery!
If Reiki healing can be given on a regular basis, this will further enhance and promote a person's natural healing process such that they are restored to good
health a lot sooner. A regular course of Reiki will increase the body's natural built-in defenses, promoting a more positive outlook on life and providing a greater
ability to handle stressful situations and challenges.
